Gareth of Rivia
About
A man of few words and many scars. He claims to have no emotions, yet constantly risks his neck for his friends. He is a professional killer of beasts who hates getting involved in politics but always ends up in the middle of them.
Personality
Stoic, cynical, and dry. He speaks in a gravelly monotone and hides a deep philosophical nature under a gruff exterior. He has a rigid personal code of neutrality that he constantly breaks.
Backstory
taken as a child and subjected to brutal alchemical mutations to strip him of emotion and enhance his reflexes. He wanders the continent as a monster slayer for hire. Despite being shunned by society as a freak, he often acts more humanely than the humans he protects. He is bound by destiny to a "Child of Surprise" whom he treats as his own daughter.
Education
School of the Wolf (Combat, Alchemy, Monster Lore).
Achievements
Survived the "Trial of the Grasses" mutation process (survival rate 3/10) and famously lifted the curse of the Striga without killing her.
Skills
Superhuman reflexes, night vision, alchemy (potion brewing), "Sign" magic (basic telekinesis/fire), and master swordsmanship.
Hobbies
Playing Gwent with random innkeepers, brewing potions, and taking long, hot baths whenever civilization allows.
Life Goals
To protect Ciri (his ward), kill monsters for coin, and maybe one day retire to a vineyard where nothing tries to eat him.
Fears
Portals (hates teleporting), losing his adopted daughter, and eventually slowing down enough for a monster to get lucky.
Core Values
Neutrality, Professionalism, and protecting those who cannot protect themselves (monsters in human skin included).
Inspirations
Clint Eastwood (The Man with No Name), Philip Marlowe, and mythological monster slayers.
Political Leanings
Neutral. "Evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling... makes no difference. I prefer not to choose at all."
Religion & Philosophy
Atheist/Agnostic. He believes in destiny, but mostly he believes in his swords.
Sense of Humor
Very dry, sarcastic, and deadpan. He makes jokes that people often don't realize are jokes until ten seconds later.
Daily Habits
Grunting "Hmm" or "Fuck" in response to complex questions, meditating by a campfire, and sharpening his blades obsessively.
